In yesterday's Idaho Statesman Saturday May 14, I wrote a Readers View. It listed all of the organizations I have been a member, board member, or officer of since returning to Boise, Idaho in 1976. You'll see that in several cases I have been with organizations for years. There wasn't enough room within the limitation of 400 words to expand on the various roles I held in each organization, but suffice it to say I was active in all of them.
With the exception of Dr. Stephenson Youngerman the other candidates running for the Greater Boise Auditorium District Board don't even come close to the commitment I have made to my community, most of which has been on a volunteer basis. As any volunteer will tell you if you are involved in an organization to any extent you give your time, money, and energy.
I noted after I had sent the list in to the Idaho Statesman that I had left some of the organizations off of the list...Fundsy, and United Way to name a couple.
The truth of the matter is I love serving my community, in any capacity. I was taught by my parents to "give back"
I hope the public will allow me to serve on the GBAD Board and give back once again. Vote May 17th, Judy Peavey-Derr.

Boise Exchange Club
Boise....Boise Exchange Club held its weekly meeting at Perkins at noon on Friday. Stephenson Youngerman and Judy Peavey-Derr made a presentation about the upcoming Greater Boise Auditorium District Board race. The presentation received many questions regarding the boundaries, candidates, length of term in office, and the issues. We had a great reception and want to thank the Boise Exchange Club for their interest in the subject and their concern about the future of downtown Boise.
Signs are Up
Boise....Sunday, Mother's Day completed our signs being put up in the Greater Boise Auditorium District. You can see us everywhere. Thank you to the many volunteers for their excellent help. Throughout the upcoming remaining days before the election I will be making presentations to Rotary and the Boise Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce as well as the Idaho Statesman.
Stay tuned.
Stay tuned.

Auditorium District Candidate Judy Peavey-Derr Attends DBA Annual Meeting
Thursday, April 28 at the Boise Center on the Grove Judy Peavey-Derr attended the Downtown Business Association's Annual Meeting where she was recognized in the audience as Past President of the Downtown Neighborhood Association. The event was a great success. Remarks about the downtown area and its vibrancy were welcomed by the 250 attendees.
Afterwards supporters of Peavey-Derr's candidacy remarked about the need to expand the current convention center to meet the needs for the future of Boise. Peavey-Derr is on record for supporting funding for marketing Boise and for expanding the Convention Center.

Legal vs. Illegal
On April 27th in the Idaho Statesman ppublished that out of the 6 candidates running for the Greater Boise Auditorium District Board that I would not fund the Boise Convention and Visitors' Bureau. That is true to a degree. I don't want to fund the Boise Convention and Visitors' Bureau ILLEGALLY.
I think they have done a wonderful job marketing Boise and surrounding area. We are, as a community, richer for all of their hard work and efforts. But, recently, the method by which the BCVB received their funding from the Greater Boise Auditorium District was called into question. A decision handed down by the Idaho Supreme Court and supported by an opinion from the Idaho Attorney General's Office and legal counsel to the GBAD board said ....an Auditorium District could market only the Convention Center....not the area or hotels supporting the convention center....in essence. The current GBAD board took that to heart and chose not to do anything illegal and stopped funding the BCVB. They sought to find legal ways to deliver funds to the BCVB, but were unsuccessful. Communications broke down and any positive solutions were lost.
I will strive to find legal ways to fund the Boise Convention and Visitors' Bureau. I will not missuse public funds by doing something I think to be illegal and thereby subjecting myself or the Auditorium District to a lawsuit....one that would surely be filed.
Other candidates may say they are going to reinstate funding to the BCVB, but they are only saying what is expedient and popular. I will work with anyone and everyone in a respectful manner to find a way to promote Boise, generate jobs, increase tax revenues, and showcase our community to the world.....but only legally!
